Cinematic Lifestyle Photographer Crafting Authentic Brand Stories

With years of experience in international editorial photography and photojournalism, self-taught lifestyle photographer Matthew Lloyd worked in storytelling for some of the world’s most famous editorial titles. Before a move from London to North Yorkshire he was entrusted with the LA Times’ prestigious celebrity portraiture work in the capital. With a transition to the commercial advertising world, the skills honed in those fields became invaluable. Art directors appreciate the ability to create something distinctive and beautiful from the mundane, or to be able to install a natural feeling into constructed, styled lifestyle scenes. He can be exceptionally quick to work when required - preferring a small tight-knit and flexible crew. He is a little lacking in respect for photographers who shoot only beautiful people in beautiful places, and prefers the challenge of creating something exciting and cinematic out of nothing. As someone once said….  “Some take ‘em, but some make ‘em,” - very few can do both.

Campaign, OOH & Asset Library Photographer for Advertising Agencies

Matthew Lloyd is a London lifestyle photographer and UK-based commercial image-maker who works closely with advertising agencies to create campaign photography that is both visually striking and grounded in narrative. With a background in editorial photography and international photojournalism, his approach combines strong storytelling instincts with commercial precision — a hybrid that suits both brand-focused campaigns and broader asset library needs.

When working on brand campaigns, Matthew is often involved from the early concept stage, helping creative teams shape the visual language that will run across a campaign. Whether shooting in studio or on location, he captures images that feel natural yet cinematic — rooted in atmosphere, character, and texture. His style nearly always centres on people, favouring layered, human scenes that bring out the lived-in quality of a brand.

For outdoor and large-format advertising (OOH), Matthew understands the demands of scale. He frames and lights with clarity and impact in mind, producing hero visuals that retain their emotional tone whether viewed on a phone screen or a 48-sheet billboard. From train stations and airports to vehicle wraps and street-level digital displays, he builds images with strong composition and spatial awareness — always aiming for resonance as well as reach.

He also regularly works with agencies to produce branded asset libraries — cohesive sets of imagery that are versatile enough to stretch across digital, print, internal comms, and social. These projects might cover a wide range of environments, subjects, and tones, but his consistent visual language ties the whole collection together. His shoots are often lean and efficient, making use of flexible crews to keep things nimble without compromising on quality.

Whether working with major brands or regional agencies, Matthew’s goal is always the same: to deliver thoughtful, usable, and emotionally intelligent photography that strengthens a campaign — not just visually, but in spirit. If you’re looking for a London commercial lifestyle photographer with the storytelling instincts of an editorial shooter and the precision of an advertising specialist, Matthew brings both worlds together.
