Based in North Yorkshire, but working primarily in London and internationally, Matthew Lloyd specialises in drinks photography, natural lifestyle imagery, and environmental portraiture.
With a background in editorial photography and international photojournalism, he has contributed to some of the world’s most respected publications. A three-time winner of prestigious Young Photographer of the Year awards within two years, he honed his craft on the newsbeat — working under pressure for global wire agencies and national newspapers, learning to act quickly and shoot decisively in fast-moving environments. He was later entrusted with the LA Times’ celebrity portraiture work in London, photographing major names across film, music, and fashion.
After relocating to the countryside and transitioning into commercial work, the instincts developed during those editorial years became invaluable. Art directors appreciate his ability to craft cinematic, human-centred lifestyle images — often from ordinary or restrictive settings — and to bring a natural quality to even highly constructed scenes.
Matthew has carved out a specialist niche in drinks photography, combining the technical precision of liquid work with a documentary eye for people and place. Whether directing a large-scale campaign or working with a small, flexible crew, he is most at home on location — solving problems practically, lighting with purpose, and bringing a lived-in sensibility to every frame.
