An example of what I would call“Semi-reportage”photography, at the factory of luxury lighting manufacturer J Adams’ in Birmingham. In situations such as this, with dimly lit spaces and dark backgrounds, it’s not usually a good idea to shoot totally reportage without any lighting. Instead we light the scene to look entirely natural, focusing the eye on a certain point in the frame and allowing everything else to descend to darkness or blur. The use of foreground blurs and shallow Depth of Field keeps the reportage feel, and gives it 3-dimensionality.
